Mother Hen God
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!”
Reflection
At the first hint of danger a mother hen will cluck and her brood of chicks will respond by running to her. She opens her wings and they huddle together beside her warm, protective body. Jesus uses this imagery of God being like a mother hen, to call us into the security of God’s love, so we might know we are safe and well.
Prayer
Gather the Uniting Church under your wings Mother Hen God, ready to send her out afresh, to grow the kingdom of heaven upon your earth. Amen
