Pentecost 13

Lectionary Bible Readings

1 Kings 8:(1,6,10-11) 22-30, 41-43
Psalm 84
Ephesians 6:10-20
John 6:56-69

Simon Peter answered him,
‘Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’

I stay with these words, let them resound in my heart, challenging and encouraging me as I find myself uttering them to Jesus.

Please pray for

  • All in Canberra lockdown, and in wider Australia who are restricted by COVID outbreaks, for wisdom for government and health authorities, protection for health workers and those infected, understanding and patience for all in lockdown
  • Safety and blessing for each person in our congregation during lockdown, and comfort and healing for those who are alone, unwell or struggling
  • those suffering overseas from the events in Afghanistan, the earthquake in Haiti, the floods in Japan and Turkey and the bushfires in the northern hemisphere
  • the Australian Government to show leadership and compassion in its response to the Afghanistan crisis.

Giving thanks during COVID-19

We give thanks for the doctors, nurses, cleaners, security guards, police officers, contact tracers, and others who ensure that hospitals, vaccination centres, walk-in clinics and COVID testing centres continue to operate well, despite the pressures they are experiencing.
