Pentecost 15

Lectionary Bible Readings

Proverbs 22:1-2,8-9,22-23

Psalm 125

James 2:1-10, 14-17

Mark 7:24-37

This admirable Gentile lady was nothing if not persistent. At first Jesus effectively said “No” to her request that He cast the demon out of her troubled daughter back at home. But she wouldn’t take “No” for an answer. Deep down she knew that if she kept pestering Him, she would ultimately be successful.

Sometimes God keeps us waiting so as to deepen our faith. In the long run what He wants is always best for us

Please pray for

  • All in Canberra lockdown, in wider Australia and across the world who are restricted by COVID outbreaks, for wisdom for government and health authorities, protection for health workers and those infected, understanding and patience for all in lockdown
  • Safety and blessing for each person in our congregation during lockdown, and comfort and healing for those who are alone, unwell or struggling
  • those suffering overseas: in Afghanistan, in the US after Hurricane Ida, and in Haiti after the earthquake, for effective and timely humanitarian and economic aid and good government

Giving thanks during COVID-19

I give you thanks for all of the good things in my life. I ask for help with the things that aren’t so good. I pray for my community in the midst of this pandemic, that everyone would stay safe and healthy. Be with our leaders, and help them to make good decisions. Thank you for your love. Amen.
